Ruby jewelry
Rubies are one of the three most popular color gemstones, along with sapphires and emeralds. As corundums with a hardness of 9, being second only to diamonds in durability, rubies can retain their beautiful appearance even with minimal care.
What colors do rubies come in?
Rubies range from pink to deep red, with the most valuable rubies being a rich, deep red often referred to as the color of pigeon's blood. Corundums in a light pink shade are classified as pink sapphires instead.
What are the most popular cuts for rubies?
Ruby jewelry is most often set with stones in round or oval cuts. Among unique cuts, the marquise, heart, and teardrop, are particularly popular for necklaces and rings.
How is the weight of ruby measured?
The weight of rubies is expressed in carats (ct) to two decimal places, with 1 ct equal to 0.20 g. For earrings and jewelry with multiple rubies, we provide the total carat weight of all stones in the product details.
How to care for ruby jewelry?
To clean ruby jewelry, soak it in warm soapy water and use a soft brush to remove any dirt. Protect your rubies from sudden temperature changes, impact and pressure. Avoid wearing your jewelry during strenuous activites, where it can be exposed to excessive physical damage that could loosen the stone.
