Sapphire jewelry
Sapphires are part of the "big three" of precious stones, along with emeralds and rubies. As corundums with a hardness of 9, being second only to diamonds in durability, sapphires can retain their beautiful appearance even with minimal care.
What colors do sapphires come in?
While sapphires are best known for their royal blue color, all non-red corundums are classified as sapphires. This includes stones in a variety of colors such as pink and yellow.
What are the most popular cuts for sapphires?
The most popular cut for a sapphire is round. Other popular cuts include the oval cut, often seen in rings and necklaces, as well as fantasy shapes like marquise, heart, or teardrop.
How is the weight of sapphires measured?
The weight of sapphires is expressed in carats (ct) to two decimal places, with 1 ct equal to 0.20 g. For earrings and jewelry with multiple sapphires, we provide the total carat weight of all stones in the product details.
How to care for sapphire jewelry?
To clean sapphire jewelry, soak it in warm soapy water and use a soft brush to remove any dirt. Protect your sapphires from sudden temperature changes, impact and pressure. Avoid wearing your jewelry during strenuous activites, where it can be exposed to excessive physical damage that could loosen the stone.
